Ladders
Currently played on 5 courts. The aim is to end up on Court 1 (Main Court).
Starts with 4 players on each court, randomly drawn (on the evening). After 15 mins the winning pair moves up a court and the losing pair down a court. The winning pair on the main court (Court 1) stays, and the pair that didn’t win on the last court (Court 5) stays there. This is where it gets interesting…
Whether you win or lose, go up or down, you switch partners. You can’t play with the same partner that you won or lost with again. In other words, you only play with each other once in the evening. Scoring is simple… the pair that’s winning after 15 mins wins. If the time is up in the middle of the game, then the pair with the higher points, wins. If it is even, then you play a golden point, there is no advantage after first Deuce.
Americanos
Every participant plays with all the other participants. Points are gathered for yourself by winning individual points during matches. A match lasts for a predefined number of points, eg. 32 points. Each point won gives you and your partner a point. When the match is completed (32 points have been played), the result is entered. A result of 20-12 will give 20 points to the winners of the match and 12 points to the losers of the match. Every point matters!
After this, players will switch courts and play another match of 32 points. After the second match, the points from the second match will be added to the points from the first match, and so on… until all matches have been played and you have final standings, and thus, also a winner of the tournament.
32 points or to another number that gives an equal number of serves to each player is recommended. Normally an Americano with 32 points matches with 8 players is completed in about 2 hours. This is the most popular Americano format.
